What is buykati.com?
Buykati.com was born out of a desire for the average internet user to find and interact with sellers of items locally from the comfort of the home or office. It is an online platform that was built to leverage the power of the internet in driving commerce locally and globally. The platform provides the average internet user with a free tool for advertising and buying items on sale. In essence, our goal is to create a network of buyers and sellers of anything from real estate and cars to a pen!
Developed and maintained by a small club of enthusiastic Ugandan engineers and computer programmers, the website went on air on 1st May 2009. Despite the website’s initial thrusts as a mere hobby, public opinion has led us to the realization that buykati will go a long way in meeting the needs of the average person not only in Uganda but the world over. For this reason, we have cast our sails and are ready for the long and arduous journey that all successful Internet businesses have had to endure.
What is our mission?
We are committed to our mission “to free buyers and sellers from the bondage and hurdles of physical distances and middlemen”. By word of “mouse”, we believe that individuals and businesses will be empowered with reduced costs of attracting buyers or finding sellers.
Why buykati?
True to our nature, the choice of name was subjected to severe scrutiny before we decided to juxtapose an English word (Buy) and a Swahili word (Kati). The English word should be obvious with mercantile connotations. The Swahili companion is an expression of urgency (the kind of frenzy you would expect in a busy market) but literally translates to “Now”.
